We had CACIQUE in 2020 for a complete overhaul for 7 weeks in the dry storage to clean the underwater ship, renew zinc electrons, new sensor for deep speed, seal on-board valves, repaint the rudder blade. Apply several layers of new antifouling.
Steel boats get very old with proper care. No osmosis GRP, no galvanic pitting aluminum, not

CACIQUE is a steel sailing yacht designed by Kurt Reinke Bremen.
Type 10M with 10.35m length, 3m width, and a draft of 1.10m bilge keel. Standing height in the cabin. Displacement 6,6t by built-in 7t
many of this type have been built by do-it-yourselfers. Our CACIQUE is not welded itself but built by the Hansa shipyard and has REINKE type approval.
It was important to us not to have a light boat, but a safe one. The saloon and engine compartment are separated by a watertight bulkhead and there is a bulkhead in the foredeck.
After a thunderstorm experience on a plastic boat, I decided to only go to the sea in a metal boat. The danger at sea is not wind and waves, but flotsam. Steel only gets dents when ramming.
In recent years there has been constant maintenance and modernization.
The sails changed so that you can set, reef and recover the sails without leaving the safe cockpit.
For safety reasons, we did without gas and installed a water-cooled diesel generator that can be started at the push of a button. So we cook, the batteries are charged, vacuum cleaners, drills, flex and more operate. We only need diesel as an energy source.
